In West Virginia, the landscape itself tells part of the story — long roads that wind through hollows where resources are scarce and help is often miles away.
On a single night in 2024, nearly 1,800 people in the state were without a stable place to live. That’s a 25 percent rise from the year before. Nearly half slept outside or in places not meant for people to live. It’s not just a city problem here — it reaches into small towns, rural counties, and communities that rarely make the news.
The causes aren’t hard to see: the loss of affordable housing, limited mental-health services, the ripple effects of addiction, and a job market that’s left too many behind. For families and young adults trying to rebuild, there are few safety nets left to catch them.
B.A.R.E is working to change that. We show up where the help is thin and the need is constant — building partnerships with local groups, churches, and volunteers who already know their neighbors’ names. Together, we connect people to food, clothing, and temporary housing, while advocating for longer-term fixes that restore stability and dignity.
Our work in West Virginia is still growing — and we can’t do it alone. We’re looking to partner with organizations, faith communities, and businesses that want to make a tangible difference in their own backyards. Whether it’s providing supplies, sponsoring outreach efforts, or opening doors to new resources, these collaborations are what turn compassion into impact.
Every partner helps us reach a little farther — to the family sleeping in their car, the senior struggling to keep the heat on, or the young person trying to find a way out. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected West Virginia, one community at a time.
