Los Angeles is where B.A.R.E began — born from a promise to show up for people when no one else would. What started with a handful of tents and a small team has grown into one of the most active community-based housing efforts in the city.
Across Los Angeles County, tens of thousands of residents still live without stable housing. B.A.R.E’s mission is to meet that crisis head-on — not through headlines or handoffs, but through consistent, human-centered action. Every day, our teams work across encampments, motels, and interim housing sites to connect people with shelter, food, and long-term stability.
Through our outreach and housing programs, B.A.R.E has helped move hundreds of individuals and families out of homelessness and into safe, supportive environments. We’ve distributed clothing and hygiene supplies to thousands and served well over one million meals since 2019 — meeting people where they are, without judgment or delay.
Our work has expanded into multiple interim housing sites that provide hundreds of beds each night, along with case management, meals, healthcare coordination, and pathways to permanent housing. Every site we operate is more than shelter — it’s a bridge back to belonging.
At its core, B.A.R.E’s work in Los Angeles is about consistency: showing up, again and again, until someone’s life looks different. It’s how change takes root — one person, one meal, one safe night at a time.
